Teutsche Academie zweyter Theil

Joachim von Sandrart. Nürnberg : Bey Jacob von Sandrart. auch in Frankfurt : Bey Matthaeus Merian zu finden : Gedruckt bey Johann-Philipp Miltenberger, Anno Christi M DC LXXV [1675].

Joachim von Sandrart (1606-1688) was a German engraver, painter, and art-historian who was a part of the Dutch Golden Age. He also established the academy of art in Nuremberg and later in Augsberg.

Sandrart is most known for producing Teutsche Academie, which was a collection of Dutch and German artist biographies that reflect the popularity of Dutch art and painting at the time. The work is illustrated by copper engravings that depict portraits of the artists covered by this art dictionary.

One of the finest engravings is the beautiful frontispiece, which depicts three allegorical figures representing sculpture (left), painting (center), and architecture (right).
