Letter from Lucille S. Spalding to Julia C. Stimson, January 16, 1942
Lucille S. Spalding was appointed chief nurse of the 21st General Hospital in early January 1942. She was to lead the nurses of the unit throughout the war: from their training at Fort Benning through their service in North Africa, Italy and France. The following letter was written by Spalding in response to a letter of encouragement she received from Julia Stimson, chief nurse of Base Hospital 21.
