In this article “Die Aetiologie der Tuberkulose” (“The Etiology of Tuberculosis”), published on April 10, 1882, Robert Koch (1843-1910) discusses his discovery of the tubercle bacillus. The paper also contains the first statement of “Koch’s postulates,” the conditions which must be satisfied before it can be accepted that particular bacteria cause particular diseases. Robert Koch was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 1905 for his investigations and discoveries in relation to tuberculosis. |
