Katharine Cornell with the cast of "The Barretts of Wimpole Street," Naples, Italy, 1944
The U.S. Army Special Service, in cooperation with the USO-Camp Shows and the American Theater Wing, presented a touring production of “The Barretts of Wimpole Street” for American troops stationed in Europe. The company performed for the 21st General Hospital in September 1944 while the unit was stationed in Naples, Italy. The star of the production, Katharine Cornell, is seated in center. Seated at left is Margalo Gilmore. Standing at right is Brian Aherne. Standing 2nd from left is Guthrie McClintic, who directed and acted in the production.
