Two enlisted men pose in a Mobile Hospital Unit 4 ambulance, Paris, France. In July 1918, Base Hospital 21 was requested to furnish the personnel for a mobile hospital, which became Mobile Hospital No. 4, A.E.F. Under the command of Lt. Col. Malvern B. Clopton, five officers, twenty nurses, and thirty enlisted men were detached for this service. The unit followed the army close behind the front lines of the San Mihiel and Argonne offensives, moving forward as the army advanced. Only severely wounded head, chest, and abdominal cases were received. After the armistice, the unit demobilized and the personnel returned to Base Hospital 21 in Rouen. |
