X-ray equipment and lab, Base Hospital 21
Part of the x-ray room of Base Hospital 21, where examination for fractures and localizing of bullets took place. The pot on the stove to the left was used to heat water for developing solution. Base Hospital 21’s use of x-rays was more specialized and advanced than that of the other military hospitals in the Rouen area. It was customary at the unit to x-ray all wounded prior to surgery. Convoys of recently wounded often arrived at night and the early morning hours. The roentgenologists and technicians often worked through the night during periods of heavy casualities.
