British General Hospital No. 12, Rouen, France
View of British General Hospital No. 12, when it was a tent city (and before the American Base Hospital unit erected wooden huts). The Champs des Courses racetrack was home to three hospital units: No. 1, Australian; No. 10, General, B.E.F.; and No. 12, General, B.E.F. No. 12, the largest with a capacity of 1,350 beds, occupied one end of the course and utilized the permanent buildings of the racetrack. The paths through the grass field were made by members of the units who walked from their tents to the mess halls underneath the grandstand.
