Base Hospital 21 nurses aboard the S. S. St. Paul, 1917
Base Hospital 21 nurses, on board the S. S. St. Paul, en route to Liverpool, England, May 1917. There were 65 nurses in the unit initially. When the unit, which was equipped to staff a 500-bed hospital, arrived in Rouen, France, they found that they were to staff a 1,350-bed hospital. Immediate reinforcements of doctors, nurses, and enlisted men were requested.
