Maj. Benjamin H. Charles, after receiving the Bronze Star, on May 23, 1944, in Naple, Italy. Charles was awarded the medal in recognition of his “superior performance of duties from 28 October 1942 to 12 April 1943” in the staging, establishment, organization, and supervision of the 21st General Hospital’s six medical unit messes. “By his steadfast devotion to duty, his leadership and resourcefulness, and his persevering efforts towards the constant improvement of the messes, the feeding units under Major Charles achieved and maintained a commendable high standard of efficiency.” |
