The Marion Sims College of Medicine, ca. 1890. The first location of the Marion Sims College of Medicine was the southwest corner of Grand Avenue and Caroline Street. The Rebekah Hospital was built adjacent to the Marion Sims College of Medicine and opened in January 1893 – its nursing school opened at the same time. A Dental Department was established in 1894. The course of instruction in both Medical and Dental Departments was lengthened from 3 to 4 years in 1899. In its 10 years of existence, 596 physicians graduated from the Marion-Sims Medical Department and 56 from the Dental Department. |
